Often, customers have asked us: “is there anything I can do before you get here?”

Before our 24-Hour Service Provider Arrives

First in the order of business once you’ve called our Air Pro Master plumber is to take a deep breath. When someone calls us with an emergency, they often sound frantic, and with good reason: it’s an emergency. It’s perfectly normal to feel nervous, anxious, or worried during an emergency. It’s perfectly understandable to be concerned about when the pipes might spring a leak, or your toilet is overflowing and won’t stop. However, the best thing you can do is to just take a deep breath. The professionals are on their way. Before you know it, we’ll be there to make things right.

Also, for the below tips, know that there is nothing more important than your own safety. As long as you’re safe, the rest will take care of itself. If there’s any chance that you, your family members, your co-workers or anyone else will be put in harm’s way, it’s not worth doing any of the below tips. That’s what’s always most important. If you do have some time and access, doing any of these tips would be helpful. Eventually, our Air Pro Master experts will figure everything out, but until then, a little bit of help could go a long way.

Know Your Location

If you are like most people, you don’t have to deal with plumbing all that often. This is true in most people’s homes, to say nothing of their places of business. When something goes wrong with your plumbing and you call Air Pro Master, our team can figure out where everything is. However, if you know of something that could potentially speed the process along, let us know where the relevant parts are. Obviously, that includes being able to tell our workers “this is where the problem is,” but that’s not all of it.

Knowing where your main water valve, your water heater, and water source are can save quite a bit of time for us. That doesn’t mean that you need to start a scavenger hunt while you’re in the middle of a plumbing emergency, but if you can tell your plumber where they are, that can set the process up to a better start. Even if you’re a new employee at your place of business experiencing a plumbing emergency, you know more about the location than a plumber who just stepped into the building for the first time. The plumber won’t know where those are located if you don’t.

If you don’t know where those are, then the plumber has to go looking for them. While our plumbers are entirely professional, always clean, neat, and in uniform, you probably don’t want them just going around your home or place of business. Directing the plumber as to where everything is will make the plumbing emergency easier on everyone. So if you can tell the plumber where those three items are, then they can get things off to a great, fast start. The sooner our plumbers get to work, the sooner they can fix your problem.

Water Main

Many of the emergencies that our plumbers deal with are pipe bursts. These can be especially frightening, because it may seem like water just won’t stop rushing out. You may want to get a head start on things by just turning your water main off. After all, you probably aren’t going to want to use a lot of water during your plumbing emergency. This can also go a long way towards minimizing the overall water damage. It can’t necessarily reverse the pipe burst, but it can lessen the eventual damage that the burst pipe is going to do. Often, this is what the plumber would do anyway, so you’re just getting a head start on the process.

Once you’ve done this, be sure to mention it to the plumber when they eventually arrive at your location. In fact, the more information you’re able to provide the plumber, the better. You’ll often be asked quite a few questions when you call our 24-hour service. Obviously, you’ll be asked about the problem in specific detail. This will also include questions regarding whether you’ve done anything to try and fix things yourself, as well as how long the problem has been going on.

Clean and Clear a Path

At first, the idea of “cleaning up for the plumber” might sound a little bit ridiculous, but it can actually help the process. A better way to think of it might not be quite as “cleaning” but rather “clearing a path.” Make sure that the plumber will be able to easily get to the areas they might need to get to. For example, make sure that their path is unimpeded to the bathroom (in the event of a toilet problem) or to other areas where something has gone wrong.

If your water heater, water main, or other areas of interest are in the basement, do a bit of work (if you can) to ensure that our plumbers can get to those areas easily. Obviously, it’s okay if you can’t do this (our plumbers have performed well in difficult environments), but clearing a path or doing a bit of cleaning is something productive you can do while the plumbers arrive. It’s certainly more productive than simply worrying about the eventual water damage, other potential problems, and the like.

While we’re on the same topic of clearing a path, make sure that your pets aren’t going to pose any kind of distraction. Making sure that your pets are in another room, or even outside, can make it just a bit easier on your plumbing professional. Basically, If you’re wondering  whether you should clean up before the plumber gets here, you might want to phrase that question as “would this be in the plumber’s way?” Alternately, you could ask “could this be damaged by the water or something similar?” If so, it could be worth moving it.

Plumbing, Heating, and AC

The above are just a few examples of things you can do before our plumbers arrive. Once they do, they’ll get right to work and fix your problem. While our emergency services are always available, we can perform maintenance too. It’s one more service we can offer, and a reliable way to prevent potential problems. Of course, we also provide heating and AC services as well. To get the right plumbing pros out to your location, call us at (702) 598-4174.
